steveinsocal "ā€¦here, a collection of acoustic tracks which didn't make the "Insomniac Dreams" EP take on an almost mystical indie-folk air thanks to the sympathetic guitar and dulcet, tender vocals of Sara Abdelbarry, whose voice - as I've previously remarked - is probably the most note prefect I've heard since those of Deborah Wykes of Dolly Mixture and Birdieā€¦ that dear listener, is praise indeedā€¦"

Seven Seas 04:22
Tell me, would we be much better In a foreign place where all the people Speak a different language Stockholm, Paris, Barcelona Or would our old homeland Throw out bait and reel us back to it Weā€™ll go swimming through the seven seas And land where we began In this place every day is a dark, twisted fable To talking heads we lay in bed With nothing to get us off We look around the interweb At places oh so far away And fantasize that there we might Live a life not on the dime Weā€™ve been holding out For some American-sized miracle ā€˜Cause now college kids will get a loan To which they sell their soul And in four years, when theyā€™re grown Theyā€™ll sell everything they own We could learn from different places Take a page from Scandinavia Where they go to school for free And use wind as energy Who is going to take the blame? ā€˜Cause something is rotten in the USA In this place every day is a Grimm, twisted fable To talking heads we lay in bed With nothing to get us off We look around the interweb At places oh so far away And fantasize that there we might Live life on someone elseā€™s dime

Martyr 02:31
Tonight thereā€™s a flame thatā€™s growing Now and then it rears its head Who will be the next poor martyr One today and two tomorrow Men like you, you love to claim You bleed blue when you feel no sorrow On the streets weā€™ll sweat and bleed Until we take them back as our own Weā€™ve been seeing all the signs That tell us to go home But weā€™ll wear black and march ahead
4.
In Stereo 04:41
I used to walk five flights up day and night In New York City, where I used to live I miss it dearly Now that I have graduated Every weekend I have stayed in Watching movies from the ā€˜80s This place can make you feel so jaded Through the years Iā€™ve come to hate it Donā€™t know why, but I am waiting Lately I canā€™t seem to reach you You must be on another planet But when you come back down to earth Youā€™ll fall face first in the dirt The evergreens are decorated I donā€™t feel like celebrating Christmas season is overrated I am always contemplating All your words and conjugating Losing games of my own making I know that we have said goodbye, But I keep looking for you left and right Living in stereo Lately I canā€™t seem to reach you Are you on another planet? And when you come back down to earth, Youā€™ll fall face first in the dirt

To keep from squinting on a sunny day Just put your hand across your brow Itā€™ll do you good Blocking the rays Of the sun beating down Be careful, Donā€™t go too low Youā€™ll block your eyes Wonā€™t see at all And youā€™ll walk into a tree To keep from freezing on a winter night Be sure to button up your coat When the frost bites And the snow is white Itā€™ll keep away the cold But if you find youā€™re shivering still You canā€™t afford to pay the bills Then you better get a smaller place To keep from getting down on a rainy day Just shut the curtains closed Then the rain wonā€™t wash away All the things youā€™ve worked for But if you want to sing the blues The whole world is bad news Then you better try that new pill

about

After releasing my EP, I had some songs lying around that were very acoustic-sounding. A lot of them didn't feel like they fit anywhere else, so I decided to group them together in this little collection. Most of these were written in one sitting in mid-2020. I want this to be kind of a low-key release and not on Spotify, so I'm releasing this to celebrate the fact that pandemic-wise, things seem to be getting better and more hopeful day by day in the U.S. I tend not to like doing purely acoustic songs, but I happened to have these and figured it's time to just put them on Bandcamp exclusively.

("To Keep from Squinting on a Sunny Day," is a song my cousin Robert wrote in 2018 and brought to me. It's an amazing song in my opinion. I took the original song/kept most of his lyrics and produced it a little more)
