Insomniac Dreams EP

steveinsocal "…gorgeous dreamy and melancholic indie-pop - which since it's released by Sunday Records isn't perhaps a huge surprise - but stay and linger, there's so much more here… there's the whimsical pop of Birdie and a bedroom-pop ethic reminiscent of Auckland's Fazerdaze, while Sara Abdelbarry's voice reminds me so much of Debsey Wykes… every song here is just so note perfect and sonically balanced… honestly, this EP is so good it hurts…"

The beautiful and melancholic melodies, intoxicating harmonies and often haunting aspect of your songs have made Teen Idle one of my favorite discoveries in the past year. 🖤🖤.

You know it's hard to say goodbye Don't know what you expect of me The days are long and I am tired The days are long and I am tired All is said and done I'm on the 2:30 back home And in the morning comes the sun Now I don't know just what to do And I am sick of all the games I know that I can't have it all I wish that I could see the light All is said and done I'm on the 2:30 back home And in the morning comes the sun Out the window Goes all I've done I look down at the street below So perfect through the glass All is said and done I'm on the 2:30 back home And in the morning comes the sun What is left to come? What is left to come?

Sometimes 06:13
Lost inside of a lie in the night I can’t see you there, as the smoke fills the air Far away from me, and you fade so quickly Now you’re haunting me like a ghost in my dreams Sometimes I wish I could go back to the start Why would I fix things if they will fall apart? When I finally found you I was losing myself Your shadow will find me when I am alone Run with me Go so fast they can’t see Through the waning light Under the candy sky As I’m standing here Everything that I fear comes so close to me And I can’t even see Sometimes I wish I could go back to the start Why would I fix things if they will fall apart? When I thought I found you I was losing myself Your shadow will find me when I am alone

The Haze 05:07
You watch as what you dream of Disappears into the sun You've reached out hoping to grasp A feeling that just fades too fast Some things aren't built to last But you hope this will come to pass Awake at night you see the signs And a stranger in the glass She comes in like the night Darkening the skies You wait for her with sunken eyes She flashes you a smile From behind the haze The days always seem brighter when it rains You sing your song so soft and slow Hoping it'd soften the blow Asleep at night but in your dreams Plays a distant melody You know that smile is a gold mine The memories play in your mind There are cards you'll never show Unless some day she lets go Under the star-lit sky She comes in like the night Darkening the skies You wait for her with sunken eyes She flashes you a smile From behind the haze The days always seem brighter when it rains

Dreaming 05:30
Dream that you might leave this place Jump into a wave before it breaks And sweeps what used to be Sometimes I would lie awake And wish that I could float atop the sea The air so soft and sweet I know you want to leave these familiar streets The city weeps When the moon fades There will be no light If you'd be mine You want to know what it’d be like To live out in L.A. And carve your name into the hall of fame Baptize me in all your fire Pretend this is a silver screen goodbye Wet eyes in the moonlight I know you want to leave these familiar streets The city weeps When the moon fades There will be no light If you'd be mine
5.
They say in time that everyone will find someone Who shines just like the full moon And the stars above Love is like a matchstick It ignites in me an ever-growing flame I'd like to let it burn Ba ba-ba Ba ba-ba Ba ba-ba Ba, ba It's been so long since we first met The days go by And I'm the sky at night just waiting for the light I don't have much to say Except that I wish you would go away You light another match Then throw it right my way Love, love is like a matchstick Love, love is like a matchstick
6.
Memories 06:24
A summer night in late July The full moon shines through Thinking of a day Where we’ll levitate above everything It’s 2:38 and I lay awake With thoughts of you Oh I wish I could erase all of the days The memories left And a goodbye is not a goodbye When you still can’t seem to escape When I drive around I will paint the town in shades of blue A September night The stars slow dance across the sky Want to know if you see it too— Do you feel alive? Oh I wish I could erase all of the days The memories left And a goodbye is not a goodbye When you still can’t seem to escape

I started writing the first few songs for this EP in October 2018, not knowing they'd become part of anything. I was just trying to process what was going on in my life at the time, and the songs seemed to have a powerful effect on me when I'd listen back to them.

What I've learned in the process of writing this -- and it took me a long time to realize it -- is not to keep people in your life who don't recognize your worth.
